Slowly stretching and lengthening rarely used tissues, muscles and ligaments
Yin Yoga
The practice of Yin Yoga is based on ancient beliefs that there are pathways of Qi (energy) that run through our bodies. By stretching and deepening into poses, we can open blockages and allow our energy to flow freely.
Yin Yoga is slower and more meditative, and because poses are held for longer, it helps to stretch and lengthen rarely used tissues, muscles and ligaments while also teaching how to breathe through discomfort.
Unlike more dynamic yoga styles which focus on muscles and toning through ongoing rigorous practice, Yin yoga offers a counterbalance and can be particularly beneficial for improving joint mobility and cultivating a sense of inner stillness.
We recommend Yin yoga for breaks between routine yoga practice days. It is suitable for practitioners at all levels.
